The survey of 190 farmers' fields in the 3 states revealed that PB was widespread irrespective of soil types, cropping systems and genotypes. Its incidence was higher in the low-lying fields than in the well-drained fields. The heavy unpredictable rains during July and August rendered the crop vulnerable to PB attack. However, it is still not clear how and where the PB pathogen survives and causes epidemics in pigeon pea in the DP. The survey indicates that the pigeon pea cultivars grown by farmers do not have adequate levels of resistance to PB, at least in the 3 states surveyed in the DP. %K Cajanus cajan %K India %K cropping systems %K environmental factors %K Karnataka %K plant pathogenic fungi %K Maharashtra %K plant diseases %K fungi %K rain %K Pigeon peas %K soil types %K Phytophthora drechsleri %K plant pathogens %K Andhra Pradesh %K fungal diseases %K cultivars %U http://www.icrisat.org/Journal/cropimprovement/v2i1/v2i1outbreakof.pdf
