%X The particularly severe droughts suffered by the South-east Iberian Peninsula in 1841每42 and, moreover, in 1846每50, are among the worst ever recorded in this region. Consequently, a national competition was organised to select the best report on the cause of such phenomenon in the provinces of Murcia and Almeria, in order to eliminate its causes or, at the very least, reduce its effects. Thus, the Spanish Government recognised the possibility of a climate change brought about by deforestation. Las sequ赤as de 1841每42 y, sobre todo, 1846每50 en el sureste ib谷rico, tan pr車ximas y particularmente graves, entre las peores de que hay noticia hist車rica, movieron a la convocatoria de un certamen nacional para seleccionar la mejor memoria sobre las causas de este tipo de fen車menos en las provincias de Murcia y Almer赤a; con la finalidad de eliminar su causas y, si no era posible, atenuar sus efectos. El Gobierno de Espa a se hac赤a as赤 eco de la posibilidad de un cambio clim芍tico por deforestaci車n.
