%X Este artigo se prop e a refletir sobre produ  o discursiva jesu赤tica dos s谷culos XVI e XVII, marcada, simultaneamente, pelo desencanto diante da inexist那ncia de evid那ncias de cren a religiosa e pelo alento decorrente de not赤cias de um pr谷vio conhecimento da f谷 crist  pelos ind赤genas. Tanto as narrativas epistolares, quanto os serm es e as cr nicas produzidas por padres jesu赤tas revelam a efetiva importancia dada ao mito de S o Tom谷, evocado para justificar a receptividade e o 那xito do projeto de civiliza  o e de evangeliza  o promovido pela Companhia de Jesus. A ativa  o de uma mem車ria sobre a passagem do Ap車stolo pela Am谷rica e a valoriza  o dos seus ensinamentos pelos mission芍rios difundiram 每 a um s車 tempo 每 a cren a numa certa predestina  o dos jesu赤tas e de uma predisposi  o dos nativos americanos ao Cristianismo. This article proposes to reflect about the Jesuitical speech production of the XVI and XVII centuries, marked, simultaneously, by the disenchantment faced with the inexistence of religious belief evidences and by the resulting acknowledgement of news of a prior knowledge of the Christian faith by the native. The epistolary narratives, as well as the the sermons and the chronicles produced by Jesuitical priests, reveal the effective importance given to the myth of Saint Thomas, evoked to justify the receptivity and the success of the project of civilization and of evangelization promoted by the Society of Jesus. The awakening of a memory about the passage of the Apostle through America and the valorization of his teachings by the missionaries diffused 每 at the same time 每 the belief in a certain predestination of the Jesuits and in a predisposition of the American natives to Christianity.
