%X Uno de los mayores problemas que plantea la p¨¦rdida auditiva es la dificultad para acceder al lenguaje escrito y a la capacidad de alcanzar una competencia lectora adecuada y funcional. En este art¨ªculo se presenta una revisi¨®n de las principales investigaciones llevadas a cabo durante los ¨²ltimos 40 a os, respecto de las causas que originan el fracaso lector de los estudiantes sordos. Se analizan las habilidades l¨¦xicas, sint¨¢cticas, sem¨¢nticas y pragm¨¢ticas del lenguaje One of the main problems that causes the hearing loss is the correct access to the written language and the capacity to achieve a suitable and functional reading skill. This article is a revision of the main investigations carried out in the last 40 years in connection with the causes that originate the reading failure of deaf students. The lexical, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic abilities of the language are analyzed
