%X This article presents a discussion about the contemporary urban identity. It takes Crici¨²ma city as the analysis object during the 1960¡¯s and 1970¡¯s. This work intended to follow the news of the city in the state and nacional press, connecting it with the intervention of the municipal government as marks of a urban identity crisis concentrated on the activity of coal mining.
