%0 Journal Article %T The Mathematics Literacy Level of Eighth Grade Students %A Esra UYSAL %A K¨¹r£¿at YEN£¿LMEZ %J Eski£¿ehir Osmangazi ¨¹niversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Dergisi %D 2011 %I Eski?ehir Osmangazi ?niversitesi %X The purpose of this study is to determine the eighth grade student¡¯s Mathematics Literacy level based on the PISA 2003 Mathematics exam questions and evaluations. Also relationships between distribution of Mathematics Literacy levels and some variables as students¡¯ gender, pre-school education, family¡¯s income and parent¡¯s education level are investigated. Survey method was used in this study. The work group of the study consists of 1047 eighth grade students chosen randomly from 12 primary schools in Eski ehir. Data were collected by PISA 2003 Mathematics exam questions, which have translated to Turkish by the researcher, and personal information form. Data were analyzed by frequencies, percentages and chi-square test. According to results of the study, the most of students¡¯ Mathematics Literacy levels were in under 3rd degree and there were significance relationships between distribution of Mathematics Literacy levels and variables as students¡¯ gender, family¡¯s income and parent¡¯s education level. %K Mathematics Literacy %K Mathematics Education %K Primary Education %U http://sbd.ogu.edu.tr/makaleler/12_2_Makale_1_.pdf
