%X Condemned to a dubious media representation in early cinema through thenovels of the late nineteenth century, the North American Indians never had a high profile infilms of this period. However, an animator, Walter Lantz, has a high degree of characterizationof Native Americans in his work. The aim of this paper is to study the role of Native Americansin these cartoons and analyze the social implications of these choices, using the concepts ofapparatus and formula. Furthermore, the analysis will include a portrayal of the Americanmedia scene before and after Lantz, seeking disruptions and legacies.Condenados a uma duvidosa representa  o midi¨¢tica no in¨ªcio do cinema gra asaos romances do final do s¨¦culo XIX, os ¨ªndios norte-americanos nunca tiveram um grandedestaque nos filmes dessa ¨¦poca. No entanto, um realizador de desenhos animados, WalterLantz, possui um alto grau de caracteriza  o de nativos norte-americanos em seus trabalhos. Oobjetivo do presente artigo ¨¦ estudar o protagonismo dos ¨ªndios norte-americanos nessesdesenhos animados, e analisar as implica  es sociais dessas escolhas atrav¨¦s do uso dosconceitos de dispositivo e f¨®rmula. Al¨¦m disso, a an¨¢lise incluir¨¢ a retrata  o da cenamidi¨¢tica norte-americana antes e depois de Lantz, buscando rupturas e legados.
