This article proposes that power does not come from the fact of being a man. It is argued how power emerges from inequality and the encarnation and reproduction of the discourse of hegemonic masculinity. The relationship between egemonic masculinity and other masculinities in Puerto Rico is analyzed, with particular emphasis on the homoerotic identity as a subordinated masculinity, the manifestations of homoeroticism, and non-conformist discourses of masculinity. %U http://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=37711290001
