%X Mayra Santos-Febres is a Puerto Rican author whose work, in many ways, goes beyond the Generation of 1970 s output. Her approach to tackling gender and sexuality in our ultraurban societies, as well as the way in which she captures the new human subjectivity in a world stripped of modernity s harsh ideologies, render her a most singular writer in our transient and uncertain times. Through her transgressions, Santos invites us, overall, to imbue our compulsive and masculinizing national culture with the spirit of transvestism
