%X Population growth over the years resulted in a greater concern for the environment and the various environmental impacts caused by industrial activities and population in general. With the need to reduce their occurrence, tools were developed to make possible the avoidance of impacts, including the assessment of environmental impacts. Such tools are essential to the definition of requirements aimed at the environmental and social performance of these materials. This study aimed to describe the main environmental impacts associated with the production of bricks, tiles and ceramics in the city of Santa Maria - RS, and to identify strategies and measures for mitigation and compensation that may be adopted by the sector. Some items such as groundwater contamination are shown in local concern as well as the removal of the organic layer of soil. The visual and noise pollution is another concern, since the study development has not a curtain in the right place.
