%X This work made a diagnosis of current situation of recycling in the landfill of the city of Cuiab¨¢, and runs from these data an assessment of the potential for recycling of household waste. Based on the data of the annual report of 2008 the cooperative workers and producers of recyclable materials from Mato Grosso Ltda, which shows the main items are subject to recycling. Initially the frame is made of recyclable materials and then an explanation of the situation of the management of household waste in any state of Mato Grosso. The work shows the conditions of work that the cooperative is in the sanitary landfill of Cuiab¨¢. The following are the data obtained from the compilation of the annual report of the cooperative of workers and producers of recyclable materials from Mato Grosso. Subsequently, based on information obtained from the sanitary landfill and in references is performed a projection of the potential for recycling in the city study. Concluding remarks are made on entering the solid waste issue in the context of sustainable development and the social importance that recycling is for all actors involved in the process and for the environmental economy in the world.
