%X The patients＊ health care on their death process raises important ethical issues to health professionals and society in general. Great advances in biomedical science and technology during the second half of last century are the beginning to question the technological imperative. In such way, nowadays when the patient shows a bad prognosis of survival, low recoverability, etc, limitation of life-sustaining treatments is needed. In these cases, professionals have to prioritize the patient＊s comfort at its highest level, for patient to die without suffering. However, there is in literature and in clinical practice much controversy about how to make decisions in such situations, and how to implement them, because there are many ethical issues involved around the limitation of life-sustaining treatments. The aim of this research article is to introduce nurses into the developed from Bioethics＊ reflection around the complex issue of limiting life-sustaining treatments. Another pretension is to highlight which is the Nursing professional＊s role in the whole thing, without losing of view that one of its contributions has to be the humanization of death process.ResumenLa atenci車n sanitaria a un paciente en el proceso del morir plantea importantes cuestiones 谷ticas a los profesionales sanitarios y a la sociedad en general. Debido a los grandes avances de la ciencia biom谷dica y de la tecnolog赤a durante la segunda mitad del siglo pasado, se empieza a cuestionar el imperativo tecnol車gico. De tal modo que hoy en d赤a, cuando hay evidencias de que el paciente tiene un pron車stico negativo de supervivencia, escasa recuperabilidad, etc, se plantea la necesidad de limitar los tratamientos de soporte vital. En estos casos, los profesionales sanitarios han de priorizar el mayor grado de confort del paciente para que pueda morir sin sufrimiento, cuando ya no se puede curar. Sin embargo, tanto en la literatura como en la pr芍ctica asistencial hay una gran controversia en torno a c車mo tomar decisiones en este tipo de situaciones, y c車mo llevarlas a la pr芍ctica, puesto que hay muchos aspectos 谷ticos implicados en torno a la limitaci車n de tratamientos de soporte vital (LTSV). El objetivo de este art赤culo es acercar a los enfermeros y enfermeras a la reflexi車n que desde la Bio谷tica se desarrolla en torno a la compleja cuesti車n de la limitaci車n de tratamientos de soporte vital. Adem芍s, se pretende destacar cu芍l es el papel que desempe a en todo ello el profesional de enfermer赤a, sin perder de vista que una de sus aportaciones ha de ser la de la humanizaci車n del proceso de morir.
