In fact the activity, trend, and value of those neglected elements were to become encouragingly appreciated by Jakob only in his later years. It happened on the extended dialogue with his disciples that introduced him to the evolution of positivism chiefly in Italy (pointing among others to the young Giovanni Marchesini of 1902, then Giuseppe Tarozzi, then Rodolfo Mondolfo; all three acknowledged semovience or the subject's ability to start new causal series and Mondolfo's philosophy of the social praxis put the subject's activity in the center of every perceptual cognition, a "positive fact" of reality whose neurobiological reading deeply resignifies the ordinary, yet crucial clinical observation of the amnesiacs' recovery), and with those disciples participating in the Peronist decade and the values it embraced (referred to the subordination of "progress" to people's meaningful existence). This essay thus marks, in Jakob's intellectual itinerary, a station in which the Europe-centered outlook still was dominant in his observations (Article in German, versions .htm, .pdf. doc).
