%X Since at least three decades, the concept of equality ¡ªin particular, distributive equality¡ª has been at the centre of the contemporary discussion on distributive justice. The idea that underserved inequalities should be eliminated and that deserved inequalities should be preserved is one of the most relevant ways in which the ideal of equality has been recently defended. The main scope of this article is to argue against the intrinsic value of equality thus understood by pointing to an important confusion: the one between the value of equality and the value of people having what they deserve. Desde hace al menos tres d¨¦cadas el concepto de igualdad ¡ªen particular, el concepto de igualdad distributiva¡ª ha estado en el centro de la discusi¨®n contempor¨¢nea sobre justicia distributiva. La idea que las desigualdades inmerecidas deber¨ªan ser eliminadas y que las desigualdades merecidas deber¨ªan ser preservadas es una de las maneras m¨¢s relevantes a trav¨¦s de la cual el ideal de la igualdad ha sido recientemente defendido. El objetivo principal de este trabajo es argumentar contra el valor intr¨ªnseco de la igualdad entendida de esta manera apuntando a una importante confusi¨®n: aqu¨¦lla entre el valor de la igualdad y el valor de que las personas tengan lo que merecen.
