%X This article is only available in Dutch Daily traffic jams at certain highways are a daily nuisance to a lot of people. Discussions about the use of pricing to stimulate car-users to avoid certain sections at certain times last for more than a decade without any result. How can we explain this, using Jan Grijpink's theory of Chain-computerisation and does the theory suggest an effective approach to limit daily traffic jams during rush hours? Al vele jaren kun je de klok gelijkzetten op de dagelijkse files die zich op vaste knelpunten voor doen. Beprijzing van het weggebruik zou die congestie moeten verminderen. Rekeningrijden noemen we dat en dat houdt de gemoederen al meer dan 10 jaar bezig zonder dat dit tot resultaat leidt. Hoe kunnen we dit verklaren met behulp van de ketentheorie van Jan Grijpink en welke aanbevelingen voor een toekomstige aanpak kunnen we aan die theorie ontlenen?
