%X L¡¯objet de cet article est de d¨¦terminer la place occup¨¦e par le probabilisme dans la construction de la morale publique au P¨¦rou. Pour cela, nous soutenons les th¨¨ses suivantes : (1) le probabilisme j¨¦suite a ¨¦t¨¦, au P¨¦rou, la strat¨¦gie la plus efficiente pour faire ¨¦merger une   morale n¨¦goci¨¦e   entre les pr¨¦tentions universalistes de la culture europ¨¦enne et les particularismes des modes de vie locaux ; (2) qu¡¯au travers de cette tentative s¡¯est constitu¨¦ un syst¨¨me moral qui a permis la compr¨¦hension interculturelle en transf¨¦rant les jugements moraux du champ de la th¨¦orie (explication causale et nomologique) ¨¤ celui de l¡¯opinion (explication des raisons et circonstances), c¡¯est-¨¤-dire que, faute de certitude, il fallait d¨¦cider en se basant sur la probabilit¨¦ de l¡¯opinion ; et (3) que dans cet effort pour parvenir ¨¤ la compr¨¦hension entre les cat¨¦gories hispanique et andine s¡¯est finalement cr¨¦¨¦e une nouvelle culture qui caract¨¦rise la vie au P¨¦rou o¨´ curieusement se combinent l¡¯autoritarisme hi¨¦rarchique et le laxisme bureaucratique, la r¨¦bellion et la servitude, l¡¯exclusion et l¡¯appartenance ¨¤ l¡¯ordre, le chaos le plus impr¨¦visible et l¡¯obstruction ¨¤ tout changement qui permettrait la fondation d¡¯une modernit¨¦ homog¨¨ne. Notre argumentation se cantonnera ¨¤ la dimension philosophique du d¨¦bat sur le probabilisme au P¨¦rou, comme une position qui a nourri les r¨¦flexions de l'¨¦lite p¨¦ruvienne. The purpose of this article is to determine the role of probabilism in the construction of the moral order in Peru.  Toward that end, we offer the following theses:  (1) in Peru, Jesuit probabilism was the most efficient strategy for bringing about a ¡°negotiated morality¡± between the universalist claims of European culture and the particularisms of local lifeways; (2) in the course of that effort, a moral system was constituted allowing for intercultural understanding by transferring moral judgments from the domain of theory (causal and nomological explication) to that of opinion (explication of reasons and circumstances) ¨C that is, for lack of certainty, decisions were necessarily based on opinions of probability; (3) the attempt to arrive at an understanding between Hispanic and Andean categories in effect created a new culture that characterizes life in Peru, where ¨C interestingly ¨C hierarchical authority blends with bureaucratic laxity, rebellion with servitude, exclusion with attachment to order, the most unimaginable chaos with obstruction to all change that would allow for the foundation of a homogeneous modernity.
