%0 Journal Article %T Automatic Detection of Sinusitis and Analyzing the Severity with Preventive Measures using GUI MATLAB Tools %A P Sasi Kiran %A M Sailaja %J International Journal of Recent Technology and Engineering %D 2012 %I IJRTE %X Sinusitis is treated with medications or surgery forsevere cases. Imaging techniques are popular in detectingsinusitis as they are less intrusive. Current imaging techniquesused to detect sinusitis are the X-ray, CT scan and MRI scan.Images taken with these imaging techniques have to beinterpreted by doctors manually and this gives room forinconsistency or in some cases, inaccuracy. Image segmentationis important as the results of segmentation are used for diagnosisand surgical planning. At present, manual segmentation andsemi-automatic segmentations are used. Another approach is theDiscrete Curvelet Transform which is a new image representation.This approach is based on the idea of representing a curve assuperposition of functions of various length and width obeying thelam: width ~ length2, this called the Curvelet Scaling Law. Due tothe high ability of the Curvelet transform in representing theedges, modification of Curvelet transform coefficients to enhancethe sinusitis image edges better prepares the image for thesegmentation part. The software used for simulations is Imageprocessing tools in MATLAB using GUI.
