The article focuses on the main peculiarities and historical & geographical frames of the Balkan identity. The author analyzes the Balkans from the viewpoints of physical & cultural geography, geopolitics and modern civilization discourses of the Southeastern Europe peoples¡¯ self-identities. It is proved, that the Balkan region remains a periphery within the symbolic landscape of Europe having uncertain borders on the North and West.
