The processes of formation & establishment of a new city idea of modern Ulan-Ude (Republic of Buryatia, Russia), ¡°The city with Asian soul¡±, are described together with the place images united within this idea. Ulan-Ude is characterized through the images of ¡°the Buryat capital¡±, ¡°the Buddhists¡¯ capital of Russia¡±, ¡°gateway to Asia¡± & ¡°the capital of Baikal Asia¡±.
