%X The article analyses the main images and spaces of Surgut (Khanty-Mansi district, Russia) as a typical ¡®oil city¡¯ of Western Siberia. The role of industrial institutions (¡®vedomstva¡¯) in the history of city foundation and contemporary architectural structure is stressed.
