E. coli SG2 is olated f rom Vara nus salvator of Java demonstrated re si stance to specti no myci n (5 0ng/ml) and st re pt omycin (SOng/ml). Inte gr on detection indi ca te d th at eight isol at es out of nine E. c oli isola tes possessed a conserved segment of the integron. Amplification of the inserted cassette of the integro n in this SG2 isolate y ielded a 1-kb DNA fragment. S equence analy ses indica ted t hat this fragment was homologous with aad ge ne, which confirm ed the re sistance to s pec tinomycin /stre ptom ycin. This i s t he first report on the presence of inte gron in t he E. coli isolated from the envi ronment. %K Integron / antibiotic re si stance / Es cher ic hia coli %U http://journal.biotrop.org/index.php/biotropia/article/view/163/133
