%X A reforma ornamental ocorrida nas igrejas baianas, no s¨¦culo XIX, destituiu conjuntos inteiros de talha realizados no s¨¦culo XVIII em fun  o de uma ornamenta  o mais condizente com a moral cat¨®lica oitocentista. Contudo muito ainda restou de conjuntos ornamentais barrocos e h¨ªbridos de barroco e rococ¨®, a exemplo da Igreja do Convento de S o Francisco de Salvador, a sacristia do Convento de N. Sra. do Monte do Carmo, o ret¨¢bulo-mor e toda a capela-mor do Convento de N. Sra. da Concei  o da Lapa, al¨¦m de ret¨¢bulos no Convento de Santa Tereza D¡¯¨¢vila, atual Museu de Arte Sacra e outras. Neste artigo analisamos a introdu  o de modelos retabil¨ªsticos no s¨¦culo XVIII em Salvador, Bahia, a constitui  o de tradi  es formais, os artistas que contribu¨ªram para estas implanta  es e a dinamica estil¨ªstica que resultou numa tipologia h¨ªbrida e numa incurss o precoce da est¨¦tica neocl¨¢ssica atrav¨¦s dos esp¨¦cimes Luis XVI.The ornamental refurbishments, which occurred in churches in Bahia in the 19th century, eliminated whole ensembles of 18th century woodcarving works aiming at an ornamentation, which would be more in tune with the catholic moral standards of the period. Nevertheless, much of the baroque, baroque hybrid and rococo ornamental ensembles survived to these days. I would mention, for instance, the churches of the Convento de S o Francisco, the sacristy of the Convento de N. Sra. do Monte do Carmo, the main altarpiece and the whole main chapel of the Convento de N. Sra. da Concei  o da Lapa, and also altarpieces in the Convento de Santa Tereza D¡¯¨¢vila, presently Museu de Arte Sacra, all of them in Salvador. In this paper I will be analyzing the introduction of altarpiece types in 18th century Salvador, Bahia, the shaping of formal traditions, the artists who contributed for these innovations and the style dynamics which resulted in a hybrid typology and in the precocious introduction of neoclassic tendencies through specimens of the Louis XVI style.
