It is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality and its prevalence is continuously increasing in industrialised nations. It is characterised by allodynia, hyperalgesia and hyperpathia leading to sympathetic dysfunction and dystrophic changes. Number of synthetic drugs are used in the management of neuropathic pain but are of no use as they elicit several adverse effects.
