%X RESUMEN Se revisa la evoluci車n del pensamiento estad赤stico y de las enumeraciones y su utilizaci車n en la descripci車n y explicaci車n de los fen車menos naturales y sociales. Las ciencias sociales han sido activas productoras y consumidoras de datos estad赤sticos. En el presente se plantea si al ampliar su alcance en el intento de abarcar y controlar la creciente y desordenada amalgama de usuarios, se da un cambio de piel de la disciplina estad赤stica. 谷sta no es s車lo una cuesti車n acad谷mica relacionada con el alcance y l赤mites del campo de conocimiento, sino pr芍ctica y pol赤tica. La especificidad de la ciencia y la tecnolog赤a invita a analizar la diversidad e imbricaci車n de las actividades en las cuales participan cient赤ficos e ingenieros, y que tocan dimensiones de la realidad tan diferentes como la econom赤a, la administraci車n p迆blica, las formas de evaluaci車n, los intereses de los investigadores, industrias, Estado, capital financiero, etc. Observando la din芍mica de la ciencia, la tecnolog赤a y la innovaci車n, crece la cantidad de datos m芍s o menos comparables sobre ciencia y tecnolog赤a, que ayudan a interpretar los cambios. De all赤 el inter谷s de nuevas formas de organizaci車n para este monitoreo social como son los observatorios de ciencia, tecnolog赤a e innovaci車n. ABSTRACT The evolution of statistical thought and enumerations is reviewed as well as their use in the description and explanation of natural and social phenomena. The social sciences have been active producers and consumers of statistical data. At present it may be argued whether in widening its scope in the attempt to embrace and control the growing and disordered amalgam of users there is a change of skin of statistics as a discipline. This is not merely an academic question related to the scope and boundaries of the field of knowledge, but a practical and political one. The specificity of science and technology invites to analyze the diversity and overlapping of the activities in which scientists and engineers participate, that touch dimensions of reality as different as economics, public administration, forms of evaluation, the interests of researchers, industry, the state, financial capital, etc. The growth in the quantity of more or less comparable data about science and technology helps interpret the changes. Hence the interest posed by new organizational forms for this social monitoring as the observatories of science, technology, and innovation.
