It is an annual branching herb which grows up to 1 m in height. The stems and leaves are covered with fine white hairs. A wide range of chemical compounds including alkaloids, flavonoids, chromenes, benzofurans and terpenoids have been isolated from this species. Extracts and metabolites from this plant have been found to possess pharmacological and insecticidal activities. Ageratum conyzoides is used in various parts of Africa, Asia and South America for curing various diseases in the folk medicine.
