%X La actual recesi車n mundial ha puesto en tela de juicio la labor de los macroeco-nomistas, la utilidad de sus teor赤as, y su capacidad de anticipar y manejar las crisis. Este art赤culo discute que pese a que los modelos son limitados para abordar todas las complejidades de la realidad, nos ayudan a interpretarla y a tener recomendaciones de pol赤tica econ車mica. Tambi谷n argumenta que aunque las crisis son impredecibles, es necesario continuar en la b迆squeda de alertas tempranas y pol赤ticas para intentar prevenirlas y mitigar su propagaci車n y amplificaci車n. Finalmente, se destaca que a pesar que esta crisis tuvo un shock inicial similar al de la Gran Depresi車n, su evoluci車n posterior ha sido fundamentalmente distinta, en particular en econom赤as emergentes. Esto demuestra que las econom赤as son m芍s s車lidas y las pol赤ticas aplicadas han ido en la direcci車n correcta, lo que se ha nutrido de importantes lecciones de la pr芍ctica de la pol赤tica econ車mica y avances en la investigaci車n. The current global recession has cast doubts about the work of macroeconomists, the usefulness of their theories and their capacity to anticipate and deal with crises. This paper discusses that, while incapable of dealing with all the complexities of the real world, models do help to interpret the economic reality and propose economic policy recommendations. It also claims that, although crises are unpredictable, it is necessary to continue searching for early warnings and policies to try to prevent them and mitigate their propagation and amplification. Finally, it emphasizes that, although the initial shock of the current crisis was similar to the one of the Great Depression, its subsequent development has been essentially different, in particular in emerging economies. This proves that the economies are much stronger, and the policies applied have gone in the proper direction, which has benefited from important practical lessons and advances in economic research.
