%X RESUMEN A doscientos a os de independencia latinoamericana persiste la idea de que somos, a¨²n hoy, incapaces de promover un pensamiento visual, un pensamiento te¨®rico que pueda reconocer, explicar, caracterizar, definir, describir o interpretar las obras de arte y pr¨¢cticas art¨ªsticas nacidas dentro de nuestro continente ¡°con la autonom¨ªa conceptual que su calidad demanda¡± (Colombres et al, 1999). De suerte que es nuestro prop¨®sito, con este trabajo demostrar la existencia de un pensamiento cultural cubano que emerge en la primera mitad del siglo XX que reflexiona acerca de los valores art¨ªsticos de la isla y la regi¨®n y contribuye al desarrollo de la Teor¨ªa del Arte como disciplina de estudios. Pensamiento cultural cubano que tiene algunos de sus mejores exponentes en Fernando Ortiz, Juan Marinello, Jorge Ma ach, Alejo Carpentier y Lezama Lima. ABSTRACT Two hundred years after Latin-American independence it still remains the idea that we¡¯re unable to promote a visual and a theoretical thought that could recognize, explain, characterize, define, describe or interpretate the work of arts and artistic practices born in our continent ¡°with the conceptual autonomy that it¡¯s quality demands¡± (Colombres et al, 1999). Therefore, it¡¯s our purpose with this paper work to prove the existence of a cultural Cuban thought in the first half of the twentieth century that thinks about the island and the region artistic values and contributes to the Theory of the Art as a discipline. Cultural Cuban thought which most of its best exponents are Fernando Ortiz, Juan Marinello, Jorge Ma ach, Alejo Carpentier y Lezama Lima.
