The political, social, cultural and economical barriers have been abolished. With these changes local markets have been replaced by global markets. In this competitive environments to compete, to lead during competition is getting more and more difficult. Companies can go for strategic alliances for entering to the global markets and for providing sustainable competitive advantages. All the companies are different from each other and have different core competencies. They have different weaknesses and strengths. The alliances can give them the chance to compensate their weaknesses and to enforce their strengths.Research Aims: The aim of the study is to show the importance of core competencies in formation of strategic alliances. Method: This study composes qualitative research methods. Besides, this study was prepared with interviews with senior executives of enterprises based on the survey. Organizational and financial performance data were collected by using Balanced Scorecard technique. According to method, developed by Kaplan and Norton, four dimensions are evaluated. These dimensions include financial size, customer size, internal company functions size, learning and growth size. Findings and Results: This study shows that core competencies are very important factors in the formation of strategic alliances. Proposal: The study suggests that firms should renew their core competencies in parallel with the changing marketing conditions.
