Examinationrevealed a large right-sided pleural effusion and subsequentthoracocentesis yielded an exudate. Although the fluidculture was sterile, sputum culture produced Moraxellacatarrhalis. Tuberculosis was ruled out by pleural fluidanalysis and pleural biopsy. Antibiotics were administeredand subsequent radiograms indicated resolution of theeffusion.
