Production of Meaning: the political stakes of expression in the public space. %A C¨¦cile Bo£¿x %J Revue des Mondes Musulmans et de la M¨¦diterran¨¦e %D 2012 %I Universit¨¦ de Provence %R 10.4000/remmm.3035 %X Cet article propose d¡¯identifier les enjeux politiques de l¡¯expression dans l¡¯espace public en Syrie et plus sp¨¦cifiquement ceux relatifs ¨¤ l¡¯expression artistique, au prisme du dernier festival de cin¨¦ma de Damas, ¨¦v¨¦nement catalyseur mais aussi r¨¦ceptacle des diff¨¦rentes formes de la politisation de la culture. Cet angle d¡¯approche nous permet de mettre en lumi¨¨re les tentatives d¡¯un r¨¦gime autoritaire pour contr ler la production du sens et imposer ses interpr¨¦tations des ¨¦v¨¦nements. Ce contexte n¡¯a cependant nullement emp¨ºch¨¦ l¡¯existence de pratiques expressives polymorphes, voire contestataires, rendues possibles par diverses strat¨¦gies de contournement, de mises ¨¤ distance, dont nous donnons des exemples dans des registres diff¨¦rents : les derni¨¨res mobilisations patriotiques anti-Mehlis et l¡¯expression cin¨¦matographique qui a eu un r le pr¨¦curseur dans la publicisation de remises en question de la r¨¦f¨¦rence politique dominante. This article focuses on the political stakes involved into public expression in Syria and more specifically artistic expression, through the lens of the most recent film festival of Damascus. This event is particularly relevant of the different ways culture and artistic production can be co-opted by political interest. This particular approach will enable us to cast light on the attempts of an authoritarian regime to control the production of meaning and impose its interpretation of events. We will demonstrate that this context has not prevented dissenting expressive practices, embedded in various strategies of circumvention. We will illustrate these practices through examples form different registers: the last demonstrations against the Mehlis investigation, and cinematographic expression, which has played a leading role in bringing dissension into the public sphere. %U http://remmm.revues.org/3035
