%X Le compromis social autour du capitalisme, longtemps tributaire du conflit entre capital et travail, se joue aujourd¡¯hui autour d¡¯une opposition plus large entre accumulation du capital d¡¯un c t¨¦, pr¨¦servation de l¡¯environnement et justice sociale de l¡¯autre. ¨¤ partir d¡¯une analyse du cas indien en deux volets, l¡¯un macrosociologique et l¡¯autre portant sur une entreprise, l¡¯article explore les ressorts de la crise du compromis social autour du   nouveau   capitalisme corporatif indien et les modalit¨¦s d¡¯¨¦mergence d¡¯un possible renouvellement du compromis social. Adoptant une approche strat¨¦gique-relationnelle, nous montrons comment les r¨¦formes ¨¦conomiques initi¨¦es courant des ann¨¦es 1980 se traduisent dans les entreprises par un recentrage sur leurs performances ¨¦conomiques et financi¨¨res. Difficilement compatible avec les termes pr¨¦existant du compromis social, ce recentrage est source de conflits locaux, qui se multiplient ¨¤ l¡¯¨¦chelle de l¡¯Inde. En r¨¦action, un nombre croissant d¡¯organisations de la soci¨¦t¨¦ civile se sont mobilis¨¦es et, traduisant les conflits locaux en probl¨¨mes de soci¨¦t¨¦s, elles parviennent progressivement ¨¤ infl¨¦chir le cadre politique et institutionnel de r¨¦gulation du capitalisme. Bien que les r¨¦sultats de ces mobilisations soient r¨¦cents, on peut y voir l¡¯¨¦bauche d¡¯un nouveau compromis social, qui pourrait aboutir ¨¤ une plus grande prise en compte des objectifs de pr¨¦servation de l¡¯environnement et de justice sociale. The social compromise around capitalism, which was traditionally focused on the conflict between capital and labor, has now moved towards a broader conflict opposing capital accumulation on the one hand, protection of the environment and social justice on the other. Through a strategic-relational analysis of the Indian case, which articulates a country-based with a company-based case study, this article explores the crisis of the social compromise around the ¡°new¡± Indian corporate capitalism, and the conditions of emergence of a renewed social compromise. We first show how the economic reforms initiated during the 1980s and pursued during the 1990s have resulted into firms focusing more on their economic and financial performance. As the new strategies are hard to combine with the social compromises preexisting at the company-level, India has witnessed an increasing number of social conflicts within and around its industry. Reacting to this phenomenon, civil society organizations have mobilized on a large scale. ¡°Translating¡± the local conflicts into social issues, they exert significant pressure on policy-makers
