%X Las cr赤ticas a la teor赤a de la cortes赤a de Brown y Levinson (1978, 1987) se han centrado en la noci車n de imagen negativa ("negative face"). Esta noci車n se ha relacionado con la de culto negativo de Durkheim (1982 [1912]) y con la de territorio de Goffman (1972 [1967]); no obstante, los cr赤ticos no han tenido en cuenta el concepto de libertad 每libertad de acci車n y libertad de imposici車n每 que aparece en su definici車n. Esta idea de libertad es propia de la cultura anglosajona y se corresponde con la noci車n de libertad negativa ("negative liberty") del historiador de las ideas Isaiah Berlin (2004). Otras teor赤as de la cortes赤a posteriores 每la de Watts (2003), por ejemplo每 no recurren a un concepto de libertad como fundamento. Se trata, pues, de una peculiaridad de la teor赤a de Brown y Levinson que explica algunas de las cr赤ticas que ha recibido. (Brown and Levinson's Theory of Politeness (1978, 1987) has been criticized for its concept of negative face, a notion related to the idea of negative cult (Durkheim, 1982 [1912]) and to the idea of territory (Goffman, 1972 [1967]). The concept of freedom 每freedom of action and freedom from imposition每 however, which is actually a part of the definition of the theory, has so far not been taken into account by its critics. This idea of freedom is peculiar to Anglo-Saxon culture, and corresponds to the notion of negative liberty espoused by the historian of ideas Isaiah Berlin (2004). Later theories of politeness 每those of Watts (2003), for example每 are not based on a concept of freedom, but rather on a peculiarity of Brown and Levinson's theory that explains some of the criticism it has received.)
