%X Los estudios de interpretaci車n experimentan desde hace algunos a os un auge considerable. Sin embargo, la historia de la interpretaci車n siguesiendo una rama marginal de estos estudios. Tambi谷n, pese a su presencia ubicua en la Conquista y consolidaci車n del orden colonial, es relativamente escasa la atenci車n que la historiograf赤a hispanoamericana ha prestado a las figuras de int谷rpretes. La aparente ausencia o escasez de registro hist車rico de las situaciones donde mediaron int谷rpretes ha dificultado el estudio de estos personajes y la construcci車n de marcos conceptuales que permitan entender y explicar el funcionamiento de la mediaci車n oral hist車rica. Sin embargo, un repaso acucioso de las fuentes coloniales permite encontrar claves para entender el fen車meno. En este trabajo, a partir de la lectura de las cr車nicas coloniales, en especial de la cr車nica de Alonso Gonz芍lez de N芍jera: "Desenga o y reparo de la Guerra de Chile", pretendemos aportar un marco de comprensi車n para una de sus facetas poco conocidas: la relaci車n entre int谷rpretes y sus mandantes. Consideramos que esta propuesta puede ayudar a llenar algunas lagunas existentes tanto en los estudios de traducci車n como en la propia historiograf赤a colonial. (In recent years, the field of Interpretation Studies has experienced a considerable growth. Nevertheless, the history of interpretation is still a marginal area. In addition, in spite of its ubiquitous presence during the Conquest and Colonization, Hispanic American historiography has given interpreters a relatively scarce attention. Because of the apparent absence or poorness of historical registers of situations where interpreters were involved their study and the construction of conceptual frames that may help us to understand and explain the functioning of historical oral mediation has been made difficult. Nevertheless, a careful analysis of colonial sources can give us clues to this understanding. In this paper, based on the reading of colonial chronicles, in particular Alonso Gonz芍lez de N芍jera＊s "Desenga o y reparo de la Guerra de Chile", we present a tentative framework for one of its least well known aspects: the relationship between the interpreters and their principals. We believe that this proposal may help fill in some of the gaps in the field of Interpretation Studies as well as in Colonial historiography itself.)
