%X En el presente art¨ªculo se expondr¨¢n algunas reflexiones te¨®ricas y pr¨¢cticas sobre la relaci¨®n entre el traductor profesional y el discurso cient¨ªfico. Para dar respuesta a la interrogante de c¨®mo traduce o debe traducir el traductor profesional el discurso cient¨ªfico se delimitar¨¢ el concepto de traducci¨®n y se expondr¨¢n principios te¨®ricos fundados en el an¨¢lisis del discurso y el funcionalismo. Basados en un corpus de textos especializados, semiespecializados y de difusi¨®n cient¨ªfica, se expondr¨¢n algunas de las principales caracter¨ªsticas del discurso cient¨ªfico a nivel interling¨¹¨ªstico, intercultural y pragm¨¢tico que permitan esclarecer lo que se espera del traductor profesional que se enfrenta a este tipo de discurso. (In the present article some theoretical and practical issues will be offered about the relationship between the professional translator and scientific discourse. To answer the question on how the professional translator translates or ought to translate scientific discourse the concept of translation will be delimited and the theoretical principles founded on discourse analysis and the functionalist approach to translation will be reviewed. Based on a corpus of different types of texts (specialized, semispecialized and journalistic) some of the main characteristics of scientific discourse at the interlinguistic, intercultural, and pragmatic levels will be presented in order to clarify what is expected of the professional translator that faces this type of discourse.)
