Voltage profile can be maintained by switching ON/OFF a capacitor bank/s. These switching actions, if not specifically controlled, introduces transients into the network and end users equipments. This paper presents a method to distinguish between transients arising because of capacitor switching and line to ground (L-G) fault. Feasibility of the proposed disturbance detection approach is demonstrated based on digital time-domain simulation of a distribution power system using the PSCAD software.
