%X Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho ¨¦ delinear, por meio de breves coment¨¢rios, a concep  o de democracia presente no entendimento do que contemporaneamente ¨¦ qualificado como doutrina liberal. Para tal, pretendo, de in¨ªcio, apresentar a compreens o tradicional de tal conceito em uma de suas vers es mais discutidas recentemente, o liberalismo pol¨ªtico de John Rawls ¨C tomado aqui como o autor paradigm¨¢tico desta perspectiva. Em seguida, pretendo apontar algumas cr¨ªticas elaboradas por Ronald Dworkin e Michael Walzer, cr¨ªticas estas que, ao que parece, antes de conseguirem minar os alicerces da teoria de Rawls, oferecem reparos a esta. A inten  o deste texto ¨¦, portanto, indicar algumas limita  es da teoria de Rawls, mostrando que embora possamos compartilhar de suas intui  es mais fundamentais, talvez elas necessitem de complementa  es e aprofundamentos e tamb¨¦m de outros meios, al¨¦m dos apresentados por ele, para serem efetivadas.Abstract: The goal of this text is to briefly outline the conception of democracy in the current understanding of what is qualified as a liberal doctrine. To this end, I intend, firstly, to present the traditional understanding of this concept on one of its most debated versions, specifically, the political liberalism of John Rawls ¨C understood here as this perspective¡¯s paradigm author. Secondly, I intend to point out some critics of Rawls¡¯ theory elaborated by Ronald Dworkin and Michael Walzer. My point of view is that such criticisms don¡¯t destroy the foundations of Rawls¡¯ theory; on the contrary, they contribute to develop it by correcting specific aspects of it. Thereon, the proposal of this text is to indicate some limitations of Rawls¡¯ theory, showing that we can share its most fundamental intuitions, even when we think that its intuitions require some corrections to take effect.
