Essa publica o foi analisada ¨¤ luz da obra de Pierre P¨¦lissier, surdo franc¨ºs, que produziu uma obra anterior, a qual Flausino reproduziu na ¨ªntegra. A compreens o de como se constituiu a publica o deste dicion¨¢rio exigiu a contextualiza o hist¨®rica da educa o do surdo, e a pesquisa sobre a expans o dos processos de produ o litogr¨¢fica na segunda metade do s¨¦culo XIX. As duas obras foram analisadas quanto a aspectos gerais, forma de indexa o lexical, verifica o dos sinais que perduraram (38 entre 382), erros de tradu o do franc¨ºs para o portugu¨ºs e o que estes verbetes nos dizem sobre os preceitos morais e religiosos subjacentes ¨¤ educa o do surdo ¨¤ ¨¦poca. A conclus o destaca a importancia da iniciativa de propagar da l¨ªngua brasileira de sinais, com a primeira tentativa de registro h¨¢ cento e trinta e sete anos atr¨¢s. This documentary study aimed to investigate the 1875 publication of the "Iconografia dos Signaes dos Surdos-Mudos", the first sign language dictionary in Brazil. The author was Flausino Jos¨¦ da Costa Gama, who had been a student of the Imperial Instituto dos Surdos-Mudos in Rio de Janeiro. Flausino's publication was analyzed in light of an earlier work, that Flausino reproduced in full, by Pierre P¨¦lissier, a French deaf man. Understanding how the publication of this dictionary came about required historical contextualization of the history of education of the deaf, and research of the expansion of lythographic production processes in the second half of the twentieth-century. Both works were analyzed as to general aspect, how the lexical indexation was done, verification of the signs that have endured (38 in 382), translation errors from French to Portuguese and what these entries tell us about the underlying moral and religious precepts behind the education of the deaf at the time.
