An attempt has been made to develop iron copper carbon sintered steels with and without molybdenum di-sulfide. The aim of the present work is to investigate the mechanical and structural effects on the fatigue limits of Cu and Mo added to Iron-carbon system. Elemental powder of atomized iron carbon copper and molybdenum are mixed in suitable proportions, hot compacted in a graphite die and sintered from 6630c to 8150c. Alloy compositions are varied with different Cu and Mo weight fractions and keeping Fe-Carbon as the main constituents. The sintered specimens were machined to standard size to carry out the mechanical tests such as hardness, tensile and impact tests. Addition of Cu and Mo to the iron carbon steel has been observed to enhance the tensile strength as well as hardness of the hot compacted alloys. The addition of Mo reinforces to form Molybdenum carbide which enhances hardness and tensile strength. The impact strength of the alloy has been observed to be reduced considerably due to the addition of the alloying elements.
