%X El objetivo de este trabajo es recuperar los debates pol赤tico-intelectuales sobre la democracia que se produjeron entre 1979 y 1989, en el marco de la revista mexicana Controversia y de la revista argentina La Ciudad Futura. 谷stos ser芍n el punto de partida para el an芍lisis de las discusiones acerca de c車mo pensar la articulaci車n entre democracia formal y democracia sustantiva, de cara al proceso de transici車n democr芍tica argentina. Se busca mostrar que el sentido de la democracia es heredero de un debate entre tradiciones y concepciones de la pol赤tica en tensi車n que comenz車 antes y se profundiz車 despu谷s de su inicio formal en 1983. The purpose of this paper is to recover the political and intellectual debates on democracy that took place between 1979 and 1989 within the framework of the Mexican journal Controversia and the Argentinean journal La Ciudad Futura. These debates will be the starting point for the analysis of the discussions on how to conceive of the link between formal and substantive democracy during the Argentinean transition to democracy. The aim is to show that the meaning of democracy is heir to a debate between traditions and conceptions of politics in tension that began before and increased after its formal beginning in 1983.
