Abstract: In 1980, thousands of metalworkers from the ¡®ABC¡¯ region in S o Paulo made one of the most intense and lasting strikes of the Brazilian working class. During 41 days, they resisted wide repression promoted against them by their bosses and the military regime, which has collaborated much to the collective mobilization of the workers to sprawl throughout urban space ¨C especially in the streets of S o Bernardo do Campo. Expelled from the factories and from important public spaces, the workers kept the Strike from, mainly, the neighborhoods where they lived, fostering the politicization of spaces and relationships of their everyday lives, thus redefining the geography of collective mobilization. In this paper, there have been analysed some aspects of this process, highlighting the importance of the workers¡¯ social networks towards the notable (re)appropriation of urban space which characterized the striker movement. %U http://www.periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/mundosdotrabalho/article/view/21058
