%X Este trabalho focaliza a cria  o de personagens femininas na literatura por meio das obras: Helena (1876) e Dom Casmurro (1900) de Machado de Assis. A an¨¢lise dos perfis femininos leva em considera  o o contexto hist¨®rico e o seu momento liter¨¢rio. ¨¦ uma trajet¨®ria em que essas duas personagens s o distintas edelineadas, uma pelo Romantismo e a outra pelo Realismo, mas criadas e descritas pelo mesmo autor, Machado de Assis. O recurso da narrativa em Helena vai construindo uma personagem que em busca da felicidade ¨¦ obrigada a mentir e, em Dom casmurro, Capitu ¨¦ constru¨ªda com perfil de uma personagem dissimulada, mas que n o usa sua voz para negar, afirmar ou discutir sobre o que pensam dela.The aim of this research is to focus the creation of feminine characters in literature through the works of Helena (1876) and Dom Casmurro (1900) written by Machado de Assis. The analysis of feminine profiles takes into account historical context and its literary moment. It is a trajectory in which these two characters aredistinct and outlined, one by Romanticism and the other one by Realism, but both of them are created and described by the same author: Machado de Assis. The use of narrative in Helena built a character that in the pursuit of happiness is forced to lie and, in Dom Casmurro, Capitu is built with a profile of a concealed character but she does not use her own voice to deny, to claim or to discuss what people think of her.
