The purpose of this study was to characterize the agronomic performance of eight varieties of lettuce under soil and climatic condition present in Alegre region - ES. The experimental design was block randomized, with three replications, and treatments consisting of eight varieties of lettuce, Crespa Repolhuda, Maravilha de Ver o, Mimosa Saladbow, L¨ªvia, Americana, Elba, Aur¨¦lia and Vit¨®ria de Santo Ant o. The lettuce plants were evaluated for agronomic traits: mass of fresh leaves, dry mass of leaves, stem fresh weight, stem length and number of leaves per plant. The lettuce showed stem length suitable for marketing (less than 6.0 cm), indicating the absence of early bolting in them. Cultivars Vitoria de Santo Antao, Crespa Repolhuda, Maravilha de Ver o, L¨ªvia, Americana, Elba and Aur¨¦lia showed the largest values of fresh weight, which ranged from 210.0 to 257.6 g plant-1. Cultivar Mimosa SaladBow was the only variety that presented weight of fresh out of recommended trade patterns (less than 200 g plant-1). Dentre as hortali as consumidas no Brasil, a alface se destaca pela sua importancia econ mica e produtiva. O objetivo do presente estudo foi caracterizar o desempenho agron mico de oito cultivares de alface para as condi es edafoclim¨¢ticas da regi o de Alegre ¨C ES. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o bloco casualizado, com tr¨ºs repeti es, sendo os tratamentos constitu¨ªdos por oito cultivares de alface: Crespa Repolhuda, Maravilha de Ver o, Mimosa Saladbow, L¨ªvia, Americana, Elba, Aur¨¦lia e Vit¨®ria de Santo Ant o. Foram avaliadas as seguintes caracter¨ªsticas agron micas: massa fresca das folhas, massa seca das folhas, massa fresca do caule, comprimento do caule e n¨²mero de folhas por planta. As cultivares de alface avaliadas apresentaram valores de comprimento de caule adequados para comercializa o (inferior a 6,0 cm), indicando aus¨ºncia de pendoamento precoce nas mesmas. As cultivares Vit¨®ria de Santa Ant o, Crespa Repolhuda, Maravilha de Ver o, L¨ªvia Americana, Elba e Aur¨¦lia foram as mais produtivas com peso de massa fresca variando de 210,0 a 257,6 g planta-1.
