%X Il saggio analizza le denominazioni assunte dagli ufficiali militari di alto rango che operano nellĄŻItalia bizantina e le funzioni da loro effettivamente svolte; approfondisce i rapporti con gli imperatori, con gli esarchi e con lĄŻesercito loro affidato, e inoltre con i poteri esterni (la Chiesa, i longobardi). This essay analyzes the denominations that high-ranking military officers operating in Byzantine Italy adopted. It also highlights their relations with the emperors, the exarchs, the army they led, and the external powers (the Church and the Lombards).
