In the present paper, some evidenceon the role of the glutamatergic system in thepathogenesis of OCD has been presented. The main elementsof the glutamatergic system, among othersionotropic and metabotropic receptors as well as transportersfor excitatory neurotransmitters, have been discussed.Molecular-genetic studies suggest an associationbetween the glutamate transporter gene and predispositionto the illness. It has been demonstrated that theglutamatergic system may exert immunomodulatoryaction what corresponds to immunological concepts ofOCD. In recent years, a neurobiological model of OCDhas been described postulating a role of the glutamatergicsystem in the pathogenesis of the illness in thecontext of relevant neuronal circuits and the cytotoxiceffect of glutamate. Finally, possibilities of using drugsinfluencing the glutamatergic system such as memantine,D-cycloserine, N-acetylcysteine, riluzole, topiramateand lamotrigine in the treatment of patients withOCD have been presented. %K glutamatergic system %K obsessive-compulsive disorder %K genetic factors %K immunological factors %K neurobiological model %K treatment %U http://www.termedia.pl/Artykul-pogladowy-Znaczenie-ukladu-glutaminergicznego-w-patogenezie-i-leczeniu-zespolu-obsesyjno-kompulsyjnego,46,17394,1,0.html
