Nowak %J Neuropsychiatria i Neuropsychologia %D 2011 %I Termedia Publishing House %X The ¦Â isoform of glycogen synthase kinase 3 enzyme(GSK3¦Â), which is found at particularly highconcentrations in the central nervous system, is crucialfor its proper development and functioning. The role ofGSK3¦Â in the pathogenesis of affective disorders, schizophrenia and Alzheimer¡¯s disease, as well as itsinvolvement in other neurological disorders andneurogenesis, is discussed. A hypothesis is proposed thatinhibitory phosphorylation of GSK3¦Â induced bynon-selective cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitors mediatesthe non-selective COX inhibitors¡¯ Alzheimer¡¯s diseaseand Parkinson¡¯s disease risk-lowering effects.Throughout the review special attention is paid tothe therapeutic potential of GSK3¦Â inhibitors.Supplementary information on GSK3¦Â cellular activityregulation, the place of GSK3¦Â in the Wnt signallingpathway, the link between GSK3¦Â and memory, neuroplasticity and circadian rhythms is provided. %K GSK3¦Â %K affective disorders %K schizophrenia %K Alzheimer disease %K neurogenesis %U http://www.termedia.pl/Artykul-pogladowy-Rola-kinazy-syntazy-glikogenu-3-w-chorobach-osrodkowego-ukladu-nerwowego,46,17091,1,0.html
