Masjid Lama Mulong is one of a remaining cultural heritage experiencing conservation works as to restore the uniqueness of the building and its history that once existed. Made from cengal, one of the famous local hardwoods, however, it is not spared to the threat of decay and deterioration from its agent. In conservation, one of the important stages is to inspect and investigate defects, as to assure the implementations of appropriate improvements are made accordance with the conditions and the state of deteriorations. In this part, some of the important features of the investigators should take into account before any investigation is made. From the overall investigation, defects are mostly caused by mechanical and biological category.
