This article is targeted to identify and verify the longevity of potential competitive advantages in Brazil*s mobile telephone sector through the analysis of the strategic actions taken by its operators between 2000 and 2008. Therefore, a two stage qualitative research with exploratory-descriptive features was adopted and carried out. The first stage saw the development of a theoretical framework based on the theory of competitive advantage. In the second step, the impact of strategic actions with the potential to become a competitive advantage in the four major mobile phone companies in the country was analyzed, and the examination of the sustainability of competitive advantages created from those actions was also undertaken. The study concluded that, although being a highly dynamic and competitive sector, there is evidence of the occurrence of a sustainable competitive advantage in the mobile telephone sector in Brazil. En un entorno de r芍pidas transformaciones, se buscan definiciones sobre las soluciones estrat谷gicas adoptadas por las empresas para garantizar su competitividad. El objetivo principal de este art赤culo fue identificar y verificar la longevidad de las ventajas competitivas del sector de telefon赤a m車vil en Brasil a trav谷s del an芍lisis de las acciones estrat谷gicas adoptadas por las operadoras entre los a os 2000 y 2008. Para ello, se realiz車 una investigaci車n cualitativa de car芍cter exploratorio-descriptiva, con dos etapas. En un primer momento se constituy車 un marco te車rico basado en la teor赤a de la ventaja competitiva. Posteriormente, se analiz車 el impacto de las acciones estrat谷gicas con potencial para convertirse en ventajas competitivas en las cuatro mayores compa 赤as de telefon赤a m車vil del pa赤s y se analiz車 la sostenibilidad de las ventajas competitivas creadas a partir de estas acciones. Se concluy車 que a pesar del dinamismo del sector, existen evidencias de la presencia de la ventaja competitiva sostenible en la telefon赤a m車vil en Brasil.
