%X Uno de los principales problemas en el desarrollo de la expresi¨®n escrita en ingl¨¦s con enfoque en el g¨¦nero es la redacci¨®n del resumen sobre art¨ªculos o investigaciones cient¨ªficas. Con el objetivo de actualizar los conocimientos existentes sobre este tema, se decidi¨® realizar una revisi¨®n bibliogr¨¢fica acerca de los elementos m¨¢s importantes relacionados con este tipo de texto. En el trabajo se describen las modalidades de producci¨®n del texto-resumen, se analiza la relaci¨®n existente entre las habilidades de lectura y escritura, la informaci¨®n textual, la informaci¨®n discursiva, el enfoque en el g¨¦nero, los distintos tipos de res¨²menes y, en particular, los res¨²menes de investigaciones m¨¦dicas. Como resultado de la revisi¨®n realizada se propone el uso del modelo de resumen del ling¨¹ista holand¨¦s Teun A. Van Dijk por su eficacia en investigaciones sobre el tema que nos ocupa, realizadas por la mayor¨ªa de los autores consultados. Se concluye que los aspectos que deben utilizarse para la elaboraci¨®n de res¨²menes escritos en ingl¨¦s son: las actividades o macrorreglas citadas por este autor, tambi¨¦n denominadas operaciones resuntivas: Omitir, seleccionar, generalizar, construir o integrar as¨ª como el an¨¢lisis ling¨¹¨ªstico de los art¨ªculos de Investigaci¨®n: longitud de los res¨²menes, n¨²mero de oraciones y longitud de las mismas, voz y tiempos verbales. One of the main problems in developing writing skills in English with a Genre approach is to write an Abstract about articles or scientific researches. With the objective to update the knowledge about this theme it was decided to do a bibliographical revision about the most important elements related to this kind of text. In this paper is described the ways of production of the abstract text, it is also analyzed the relation between reading and writing skills, the text information, the discourse information, the genre approach and the different kinds of abstracts, basically medical researches. As a result of the revision done it is suggested to use the model stated by the dutch linguist Teun A. Van Dijk due to its efficacy in researches done by most of the authors consulted in articles and books about this theme. It is concluded that the aspects that should be taken into consideration to write an abstract in english are: the activities or macrorules, also called resunctive operations: elliciting, selecting, generalizing, constructing or integrating, as well as the linguistic analysis of the research articles: length of the abstracts, number and length of statements used, voice and verbal tenses.
