Within this framework, Justus van Egmont serves as a case-study. Van Egmont's ambitions are clarified by considering his position in Rubens's workshop and as court painter with Louis xiii, as well as his function as a founding member of the Parisian Acad¨¦mie des Beaux-Arts. Also his print shop and some archival documents will be taken into account.
