%X Cet article plaide pour une approche biographique de l¡¯engagement public dans la modernit¨¦ avanc¨¦e. L¡¯auteur montre comment la mutation du contexte soci¨¦tal red¨¦finit la probl¨¦matique de l¡¯engagement et nous oblige ¨¤ consid¨¦rer cette derni¨¨re sous un angle nouveau. Il s¡¯interroge ensuite sur les raisons qui expliquent l¡¯importance grandissante des ressources biographiques dans la compr¨¦hension de l¡¯engage-ment public et d¨¦finit les quatre principaux types de ressources biographiques identifi¨¦s dans la lit-t¨¦-rature. Apr¨¨s une discussion de leurs apports et de leurs limites, l¡¯auteur termine en d¨¦fendant une ap-proche multidimensionnelle de l¡¯engagement public, bas¨¦e sur la compl¨¦mentarit¨¦ des ¨¦l¨¦ments orga-nisationnels, institutionnels et biographiques. This article pleads for a biographical approach of public engagement in advanced modernity. The author shows how the change of the societal context redefines the problems of engagement and obliges us to consider the latter under a new angle. He wonders then about the reasons which explain the growing importance of the biographical resources in the comprehension of public engagement and defines the four principal types of biographical resources identified in the literature. After a discussion of their contributions and their limits, the author finishes by defending a multidimensional approach of public engagement, based on the complementarity of the organizational, institutional and biographical elements.
